Luke 24:17  He asked them, “What are you discussing together as you walk along?” They stood still, their faces downcast. — JESUS speaking to 2 men on the walk to Emmaus

Why were the men downcast?

JESUS had just been crucified on the cross 3 days prior.

HE had been beaten unrecognizable.

These 2 men, one of them named Cleopas, had probably just witnessed this brutal and traumatic tragedy.  As JESUS questioned why they were downcast, they were surprised that HE didn’t know the extraordinary event that had just transpired in Jerusalem.  They tell HIM that JESUS was a prophet powerful in word and deed before GOD and all the people. They tell HIM HE was handed over by their rulers and chief priests to be crucified on the cross.  They tell HIM they had hoped HE was the One to redeem all of Israel.

Their entire hope had been shattered!

They go on to tell JESUS that the women who went to the tomb that morning told them that angels appeared and said HE was no longer there, but was alive again.

Obviously, they did not yet believe this truth was reality.

JESUS did not reveal who HE was to them as they walked along the road, yet chose to explain the scriptures about HIMSELF and that which prophetically foretold the suffering HE would have to go through before entering glory.

When they reached Emmaus where the men lived, they urged JESUS to stay with them since it was nightfall.  HE agreed.  HE sat at the table and broke bread with them and then their eyes were opened to recognize that HE who sat with them was in fact JESUS, alive with them again in their very midst!  Then HE disappeared from their sight.

Luke 24:32  They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”

Have you ever been downcast and your only hope shattered?

JESUS knows intimately about how you feel…

HE wants to come alongside you while you walk along…

HE will share with you the truth you need to know…

HE will reveal HIMSELF to you if you invite HIM into your heart…

HE wants to rescue you from your darkness and to know that putting your faith in HIM, who is the LIGHT of the world, will change your outcome in a positive direction.  HE wants to restore ultimate hope within you that will change your destination to that of Heaven.  HE wants to redeem your very life with HIS sacrifice of love HE has given through HIS perfect life lived, HIS death on the cross shedding HIS blood to save you, and HIS risen life to be your forever friend that changes your very destiny with new purpose and vision…

If you already have a relationship with JESUS and you’re suffering with a setback, know that HE will see you through it all…  HE will walk with you still…  HE will carry you if you need HIM to…  HE will lead and guide you for HE promises to never leave nor forsake you…  Those who wait on the LORD will renew their strength…

HE chooses to join you in this journey…  Will you let HIM in today to go further than you ever thought possible?…

Faith, hope, and love on the horizon await you found in GOD’s One and only begotten SON JESUS…
