Isaiah 33:2
O LORD, be gracious to us; we long for YOU. Be our strength every morning, our salvation in time of distress.
Isaiah 43:2
When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze.
Jeremiah 29: 11-14
11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back from captivity.
Romans 8: 28-39
28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. 29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. 30 And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.
More Than Conquerors
31 What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? 33 Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34 Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36 As it is written:
“For your sake we face death all day long;
we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Noah
The meaning of the name Noah (Noach in Hebrew) is “rest.” “This one (Noach) will bring us rest (nuach) from our work and from the toil of our hands, from the ground which YHWH had cursed.” Genesis 5:28
9 This is the account of Noah and his family.
Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God. 10 Noah had three sons: Shem, Ham and Japheth. Genesis 6: 9-10
GOD saw that the wickedness of humans had increased with evil intent in their hearts, so HE decided to destroy them and the earth.
HE chose to spare Noah and his family based on Noah’s righteousness and faithfulness to walk with HIM. HE commanded Noah to build an ark and gave specific instructions for building it. It is thought that it took Noah 50-80 years to finish the ark.
17 I am going to bring floodwaters on the earth to destroy all life under the heavens, every creature that has the breath of life in it. Everything on earth will perish. 18 But I will establish my covenant with you, and you will enter the ark—you and your sons and your wife and your sons’ wives with you. 19 You are to bring into the ark two of all living creatures, male and female, to keep them alive with you. 20 Two of every kind of bird, of every kind of animal and of every kind of creature that moves along the ground will come to you to be kept alive. 21 You are to take every kind of food that is to be eaten and store it away as food for you and for them.”
22 Noah did everything just as God commanded him. Genesis 6:17-22
Once the ark was built and in GOD’s timing, HE commanded Noah to enter the ark with his family and the animals set aside to be saved. GOD commanded the rains to fall for 40 days and 40 nights to flood the whole earth destroying all that lived there. Noah and his family were locked up in the ark presumably in the dark other than the candles lit in order to see as they fed themselves and the animals. It is suggested that the floodwaters remained 370 days before Noah, his family, and the animals were able to leave the ark onto dry ground. Here is a link to the possible length of time to build the ark and time spent on the ark.
GOD was faithful to bring Noah and his family through the long lasting torrential storm. HE is able to see you through yours...
20 Then Noah built an altar to the Lord and, taking some of all the clean animals and clean birds, he sacrificed burnt offerings on it. 21 The Lord smelled the pleasing aroma and said in his heart: “Never again will I curse the ground because of humans, even though every inclination of the human heart is evil from childhood. And never again will I destroy all living creatures, as I have done.
22 “As long as the earth endures,
seedtime and harvest,
cold and heat,
summer and winter,
day and night
will never cease.
Noah and his family and the animals according to their kinds were saved because of Noah’s righteousness. His obedience to build the ark in faithfulness to GOD was rewarded after the floodwaters dispersed. GOD chose to start over with the human race through Noah and his family. HE commanded Noah’s sons and wives to be fruitful and multiply.
12 And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: 13 I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. 14 Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, 15 I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. 16 Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.”
17 So God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant I have established between me and all life on the earth.” Genesis 9: 12-17
GOD may indeed use you, if you choose to live righteously, to save your own family in some way and multiply them as a reward to you...
Abraham
The Call of Abram
12 The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.
2 “I will make you into a great nation,
and I will bless you;
I will make your name great,
and you will be a blessing.
3 I will bless those who bless you,
and whoever curses you I will curse;
and all peoples on earth
will be blessed through you.”
4 So Abram went, as the Lord had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Harran.
Abram showed faith in GOD by leaving what was familiar and comfortable to journey to a new place he had never been to nor knew in advance where it would be located.
GOD may command you to leave your home to go to a new residence or leave a job/ministry to go to a new job/ministry to use you in a greater way bringing with it more rewards for your faithfulness when you respond to HIM with faith.
2 Corinthians 5:7
7 For we live by faith, not by sight.
The Covenant of Circumcision
17 When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am God Almighty; walk before me faithfully and be blameless. 2 Then I will make my covenant between me and you and will greatly increase your numbers.”
3 Abram fell facedown, and God said to him, 4 “As for me, this is my covenant with you: You will be the father of many nations. 5 No longer will you be called Abram; your name will be Abraham, for I have made you a father of many nations. 6 I will make you very fruitful; I will make nations of you, and kings will come from you. 7 I will establish my covenant as an everlasting covenant between me and you and your descendants after you for the generations to come, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you. 8 The whole land of Canaan, where you now reside as a foreigner, I will give as an everlasting possession to you and your descendants after you; and I will be their God.”
9 Then God said to Abraham, “As for you, you must keep my covenant, you and your descendants after you for the generations to come. 10 This is my covenant with you and your descendants after you, the covenant you are to keep: Every male among you shall be circumcised. 11 You are to undergo circumcision, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and you. 12 For the generations to come every male among you who is eight days old must be circumcised, including those born in your household or bought with money from a foreigner—those who are not your offspring. 13 Whether born in your household or bought with your money, they must be circumcised. My covenant in your flesh is to be an everlasting covenant. 14 Any uncircumcised male, who has not been circumcised in the flesh, will be cut off from his people; he has broken my covenant.”
15 God also said to Abraham, “As for Sarai your wife, you are no longer to call her Sarai; her name will be Sarah. 16 I will bless her and will surely give you a son by her. I will bless her so that she will be the mother of nations; kings of peoples will come from her.”
17 Abraham fell facedown; he laughed and said to himself, “Will a son be born to a man a hundred years old? Will Sarah bear a child at the age of ninety?” 18 And Abraham said to God, “If only Ishmael might live under your blessing!”
19 Then God said, “Yes, but your wife Sarah will bear you a son, and you will call him Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him. 20 And as for Ishmael, I have heard you: I will surely bless him; I will make him fruitful and will greatly increase his numbers. He will be the father of twelve rulers, and I will make him into a great nation. 21 But my covenant I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you by this time next year.” 22 When he had finished speaking with Abraham, God went up from him. Genesis 17: 1-22
Once Abraham arrived in the place he was to reside, it was then that GOD promised Abraham that he and his descendants would have the land of Canaan as an everlasting possession. GOD changed Abram’s name to Abraham which means “father lifted up” and “exalted father” in Hebrew. He would be the father of many nations. GOD changed Sarai’s name to Sarah which means “lady, princess, and noble woman” in Hebrew. She would be the mother of many nations.
GOD would later test Abraham’s love toward HIM as compared with the love of his son Isaac. Abraham was faced with a dilemma. He loved GOD and he loved his son. It must have been a difficult decision to obey GOD with a willingness to sacrifice his son. Abraham must have been convinced that GOD would still keep HIS covenant promise through Isaac and his descendants after him by way of GOD’s own ability to raise him from the dead.
The Sacrifice of Isaac
22 After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” 2 He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.” 3 So Abraham rose early in the morning, saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and his son Isaac. And he cut the wood for the burnt offering and arose and went to the place of which God had told him. 4 On the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes and saw the place from afar. 5 Then Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey; I and the boy will go over there and worship and come again to you.” 6 And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son. And he took in his hand the fire and the knife. So they went both of them together. 7 And Isaac said to his father Abraham, “My father!” And he said, “Here I am, my son.” He said, “Behold, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?” 8 Abraham said, “God will provide for himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son.” So they went both of them together.
9 When they came to the place of which God had told him, Abraham built the altar there and laid the wood in order and bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. 10 Then Abraham reached out his hand and took the knife to slaughter his son. 11 But the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” 12 He said, “Do not lay your hand on the boy or do anything to him, for now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.” 13 And Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him was a ram, caught in a thicket by his horns. And Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering instead of his son. 14 So Abraham called the name of that place, “The Lord will provide”; as it is said to this day, “On the mount of the Lord it shall be provided.”
15 And the angel of the Lord called to Abraham a second time from heaven 16 and said, “By myself I have sworn, declares the Lord, because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son, 17 I will surely bless you, and I will surely multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven and as the sand that is on the seashore. And your offspring shall possess the gate of his enemies, 18 and in your offspring shall all the nations of the earth be blessed, because you have obeyed my voice.” 19 So Abraham returned to his young men, and they arose and went together to Beersheba. And Abraham lived at Beersheba.
GOD knew from Abraham’s faith, heart, and action that he indeed loved HIM more than even his precious son. Thus, GOD rewarded him greatly with blessings and promise to multiply his offspring as much as the stars of heaven and sand of the seashore. GOD provided a ram for the sacrifice and spared Isaac. This is a representation of how GOD provided JESUS, HIS only begotten SON as the Lamb of GOD to be the sacrifice for our sins to spare our lives and give to us forgiveness of salvation…
GOD may ask you to sacrifice what you love the most to show you love HIM more and then not only restore you back to that which you love, but bless you and multiply your reward...
Joseph
Joseph was the son Israel loved the most. Jacob (changed name to Israel) had a coat of many colors made and given to his son Joseph. His brothers became filled with hatred of Joseph. Then Joseph was given dreams that his brothers would one day bow down to him. He told his family about them and his brothers despised him even more. All the brothers became jealous of him.
The meaning of Joseph in Hebrew means “GOD will add”. It comes from the verb yasap which means to add, increase, or do again.
One day, Israel sent Joseph to find his brothers to see if they were well. When the brothers saw him coming, they planned to kill him.
19 “Here comes that dreamer!” they said to each other. 20 “Come now, let’s kill him and throw him into one of these cisterns and say that a ferocious animal devoured him. Then we’ll see what comes of his dreams.” Genesis 37: 19-20
Reuben spoke up for them not to kill him for he planned on rescuing him to take back to their father.
They take off his coat of many colors and throw Joseph into the cistern.
Judah spoke up and suggested that they sell Joseph to the group of Midianite merchants heading to Egypt and it is agreed to do so.
The brothers tore his coat. After killing a goat, they drench the coat in its blood. They present the coat to their father and Israel believes his son has been killed by a wild animal.
There may be a time when someone in the family becomes jealous of what GOD has chosen for you to be and do.
39 Now Joseph had been taken down to Egypt. Potiphar, an Egyptian who was one of Pharaoh’s officials, the captain of the guard, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had taken him there.
2 The Lord was with Joseph so that he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master. 3 When his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord gave him success in everything he did, 4 Joseph found favor in his eyes and became his attendant. Potiphar put him in charge of his household, and he entrusted to his care everything he owned. 5 From the time he put him in charge of his household and of all that he owned, the Lord blessed the household of the Egyptian because of Joseph. The blessing of the Lord was on everything Potiphar had, both in the house and in the field. 6 So Potiphar left everything he had in Joseph’s care; with Joseph in charge, he did not concern himself with anything except the food he ate. Genesis 39: 1-6
Potiphar’s wife became attracted to Joseph and told him to come to bed with her. He refuses for he has been put in charge of all that his master has and he doesn’t want to sin against GOD. She continued to ask him to be with her over many days. One day when he is alone and she finds him there, she grabs his cloak off of him and he runs out of the house. She calls for her servants and tells them he tried to sleep with her.
16 She kept his cloak beside her until his master came home. 17 Then she told him this story: “That Hebrew slave you brought us came to me to make sport of me. 18 But as soon as I screamed for help, he left his cloak beside me and ran out of the house.”
19 When his master heard the story his wife told him, saying, “This is how your slave treated me,” he burned with anger. 20 Joseph’s master took him and put him in prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were confined.
But while Joseph was there in the prison, 21 the Lord was with him; he showed him kindness and granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden. 22 So the warden put Joseph in charge of all those held in the prison, and he was made responsible for all that was done there. 23 The warden paid no attention to anything under Joseph’s care, because the Lord was with Joseph and gave him success in whatever he did.
GOD is with us even when we are wrongly accused and dealing with repercussions. HE is with us if we are finding ourselves in situations that are unpleasant and less than desirable.
Joseph is able to interpret the dreams of fellow prisoners the cupbearer that will be released in 3 days back to his assigned position and the baker who will be killed by Pharaoh.
When the cupbearer is released, Joseph had asked him to remember him in kindness and to mention him to Pharaoh to get him out of prison.
Later, when Pharaoh has a dream he demands to be interpreted, the cupbearer remembers Joseph and tells him that Joseph was able to interpret his and the baker’s dream. So Pharaoh sends for Joseph. Joseph explains that GOD will interpret his dream and reveal it to him. Pharaoh is pleased to know what his dream meant and with the wisdom Joseph has for what to do during the seven years of abundance and seven years of famine. Pharaoh puts Joseph in charge of all of Egypt.
The difficulties, trials, and tribulations we go through are used by GOD to equip us to be used by HIM in a greater way of service in doing HIS will and accomplishing HIS purposes...
44 Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I am Pharaoh, but without your word no one will lift hand or foot in all Egypt.” 45 Pharaoh gave Joseph the name Zaphenath-Paneah and gave him Asenath daughter of Potiphera, priest of On, to be his wife. And Joseph went throughout the land of Egypt.
46 Joseph was thirty years old when he entered the service of Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from Pharaoh’s presence and traveled throughout Egypt. 47 During the seven years of abundance the land produced plentifully. 48 Joseph collected all the food produced in those seven years of abundance in Egypt and stored it in the cities. In each city he put the food grown in the fields surrounding it. 49 Joseph stored up huge quantities of grain, like the sand of the sea; it was so much that he stopped keeping records because it was beyond measure.
50 Before the years of famine came, two sons were born to Joseph by Asenath daughter of Potiphera, priest of On. 51 Joseph named his firstborn Manasseh and said, “It is because God has made me forget all my trouble and all my father’s household.” 52 The second son he named Ephraim and said, “It is because God has made me fruitful in the land of my suffering.”
53 The seven years of abundance in Egypt came to an end, 54 and the seven years of famine began, just as Joseph had said. There was famine in all the other lands, but in the whole land of Egypt there was food. 55 When all Egypt began to feel the famine, the people cried to Pharaoh for food. Then Pharaoh told all the Egyptians, “Go to Joseph and do what he tells you.”
56 When the famine had spread over the whole country, Joseph opened all the storehouses and sold grain to the Egyptians, for the famine was severe throughout Egypt. 57 And all the world came to Egypt to buy grain from Joseph, because the famine was severe everywhere. Genesis 41: 44-57
Joseph is given greater responsibility by being faithful to serve GOD along the way from pit, to Potiphar’s servant in charge, to prison, and to pinnacle of power in the LORD.
Luke 16:10
10 “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.
Jacob sent his sons to travel to Egypt to buy food for their families. Jacob did not send Benjamin, Joseph’s brother from the same mother.
Joseph recognizes them and tells them to have one of them (Simeon) stay and be put in prison while the others go and bring Benjamin back to Egypt. Joseph gives them grain for their return to Canaan. He also had the silver they paid for it be put back in the sacks.
After some convincing, Jacob lets Benjamin go with them back to Egypt after the grain is used up and sends gifts with them to be given to Joseph. They meet Joseph again and he invites them all to have dinner with him in his house.
When Joseph appears, they give the gifts they brought to him and bow down. Joseph asks about their father to see if he is still living. They tell him he is still living and bow down to him again.
As the food was served, the brothers were seated by progression of age from oldest to youngest to which they were astonished.
Joseph had the steward given them sacks with food along with the silver they paid with and his silver cup put in the sack of Benjamin. In the morning they started off.
4 They had not gone far from the city when Joseph said to his steward, “Go after those men at once, and when you catch up with them, say to them, ‘Why have you repaid good with evil? 5 Isn’t this the cup my master drinks from and also uses for divination? This is a wicked thing you have done.’” Genesis 44: 4-5
The brothers are confronted by the steward and they tell him they would never do such a thing. They say that if one of them had the cup, that one would die and the rest of them would become his slaves.
The steward replied that the one who has the cup would become his slave and the rest would be free to go.
The brothers lowered their sacks and the steward searched the bags from the oldest to they youngest and found the cup in Benjamin’s bag. All the brothers tore their clothes and went back to the city.
They go to Joseph and fall down before him and say that they all are his slaves to include Benjamin. Joseph told them only the one with the cup is to stay a slave and the rest of them go free.
Judah explains to Joseph what had happened to Jacob’s son born to his wife who died (referring to Joseph) and that the only one left is Benjamin to whom Jacob loves. Judah tells him that he promised to bring Benjamin back to his father safely. Judah offers to stay as Josephs slave in place of Benjamin.
Joseph Makes Himself Known
45 Then Joseph could no longer control himself before all his attendants, and he cried out, “Have everyone leave my presence!” So there was no one with Joseph when he made himself known to his brothers. 2 And he wept so loudly that the Egyptians heard him, and Pharaoh’s household heard about it.
3 Joseph said to his brothers, “I am Joseph! Is my father still living?” But his brothers were not able to answer him, because they were terrified at his presence.
4 Then Joseph said to his brothers, “Come close to me.” When they had done so, he said, “I am your brother Joseph, the one you sold into Egypt! 5 And now, do not be distressed and do not be angry with yourselves for selling me here, because it was to save lives that God sent me ahead of you. 6 For two years now there has been famine in the land, and for the next five years there will be no plowing and reaping. 7 But God sent me ahead of you to preserve for you a remnant on earth and to save your lives by a great deliverance.
8 “So then, it was not you who sent me here, but God. He made me father to Pharaoh, lord of his entire household and ruler of all Egypt. 9 Now hurry back to my father and say to him, ‘This is what your son Joseph says: God has made me lord of all Egypt. Come down to me; don’t delay. 10 You shall live in the region of Goshen and be near me—you, your children and grandchildren, your flocks and herds, and all you have. 11 I will provide for you there, because five years of famine are still to come. Otherwise you and your household and all who belong to you will become destitute.’
12 “You can see for yourselves, and so can my brother Benjamin, that it is really I who am speaking to you. 13 Tell my father about all the honor accorded me in Egypt and about everything you have seen. And bring my father down here quickly.”
14 Then he threw his arms around his brother Benjamin and wept, and Benjamin embraced him, weeping. 15 And he kissed all his brothers and wept over them. Afterward his brothers talked with him.
16 When the news reached Pharaoh’s palace that Joseph’s brothers had come, Pharaoh and all his officials were pleased. 17 Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Tell your brothers, ‘Do this: Load your animals and return to the land of Canaan, 18 and bring your father and your families back to me. I will give you the best of the land of Egypt and you can enjoy the fat of the land.’
19 “You are also directed to tell them, ‘Do this: Take some carts from Egypt for your children and your wives, and get your father and come. 20 Never mind about your belongings, because the best of all Egypt will be yours.’”
21 So the sons of Israel did this. Joseph gave them carts, as Pharaoh had commanded, and he also gave them provisions for their journey. 22 To each of them he gave new clothing, but to Benjamin he gave three hundred shekels[b] of silver and five sets of clothes. 23 And this is what he sent to his father: ten donkeys loaded with the best things of Egypt, and ten female donkeys loaded with grain and bread and other provisions for his journey. 24 Then he sent his brothers away, and as they were leaving he said to them, “Don’t quarrel on the way!”
25 So they went up out of Egypt and came to their father Jacob in the land of Canaan. 26 They told him, “Joseph is still alive! In fact, he is ruler of all Egypt.” Jacob was stunned; he did not believe them. 27 But when they told him everything Joseph had said to them, and when he saw the carts Joseph had sent to carry him back, the spirit of their father Jacob revived. 28 And Israel said, “I’m convinced! My son Joseph is still alive. I will go and see him before I die.” Genesis 45
Ultimately GOD desires to save, rescue, and redeem lives. HE may very well be preparing you and then presenting you with opportunity to do just that... GOD also desires for us to repent and receive forgiveness for when we have sinned. We are given forgiveness when we confess our sin and turn from it to live a new life in JESUS...
Proverbs 11:30
30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life,
and the one who is wise saves lives.

Thank you Jeff for sharing this. I have wept reading the story of Joseph, though I knew the story, my heart is still moved by how God used Joseph to save the lives of not only the Egyptians but those of His own family who sold him to slavery.
Ultimately it is never about us, but about what God has planned to do through us. May God grant us His Holy Spirit to yield to Him.
